My own struggle with substance misuse taught me a lot, including the importance of early and accessible intervention. Many people think that someone suffering from an unhealthy lifestyle must hit rock bottom to be truly ready to get better. This notion is flat-out false and is an unfortunate myth that keeps many people stuck in a negative and potentially life-threatening situation. I was fortunate enough to have people in my life that intervened on the dangerous habits that I developed during college. That woke me up and showed me that the sooner someone gets help, the more likely that person will be able to have a full, healthy, and productive life.

 FAQs

  • An intervention is a structured conversation that is intended to help someone recognize and address a problem, such as an addiction or other unwanted behaviors, and plant the seed for change.

The goal of an intervention is to provide support and guidance to all participants, resolve unhealthy conflicts and encourage everyone to make positive changes in their lives. An intervention typically involves a group of people who are concerned about an individual, coming together to have a direct and honest conversation about the impact of their unaddressed harmful behaviors. An intervention may be appropriate for anyone who is struggling with a problem and is in need of support and guidance, regardless of age, gender, or background.

The hope is that through a better conversation, everyone involved will be able to see the impact of their behaviors on themselves and others, and will be motivated to seek help and make changes.

  • Research on interventions has found them to be effective with a diverse client population and a number of mental health concerns. The benefits of online interventions include reducing barriers to accessing mental health care, reducing costs associated with the provision of services, and increasing the frequency of contact and engagement along the continuum of care.
